After the purification practices the mind will be ready and fit enough to turn within, from the worldly objects to the spiritual object i.e., Truth, Reality, Self. The empty, pure state of the mind is the diving board from which one can take the final position to dive deep into one's Eternal Blissful Self within. Meditation can be classified into two main categories: one is the Objective and the other is the Subjective.
The Objective Method is for those who are basically emotional in nature and the Subjective Method is for those who are basically intellectual. However we need not strictly compartmentalise both these methods. We could see a very beautiful blending of these two methods in the spiritual disciplines of many realised souls.
Follow the preliminary steps
Go through the purification practices.
Keeping the picture or the statue of the God right in front of the meditator, calmly observe with open eyes the full figure from the head to the feet, all the while keep in your mind the knowledge of the Divine Nature of the ideal God, as the Formless, Eternal, All-pervasive, Blissful consciousness. Do this for ten minutes.
Worship your Ideal God by singing his / her glories for ten minutes.
Repeat the song with clapping for ten minutes
Then stand up and repeat the song with dancing movements, with clapping or without clapping of hands. Speed up the dancing movements. After a couple of rounds slow down and stop. Do this for ten minutes
Sit quietly in front of the deity. Close the eyes and see your ideal God within your heart. Repeatedly call the holy name of your God in a gentle voice. Do this for ten minutes.
Retaining the same posture close the eyes and weep for the vision of the God silently but intensely. Emotion can be expressed through tears and gestures if they come naturally but without uttering words.
After spending all your emotions sit in the same closed-eyes posture, but mentally keep gazing intently at your God with a humble attitude and a spirit of surrender without any deliberate limitation of time. The idea of time must be dropped from your mind.
