2. Subjective Meditation

  1. Follow the five preliminary steps
  2. Go through the purification practices.
  3. Read carefully the following instructions and practice accordingly.
If the Objective Meditation is subtle, the Subjective Meditation is subtler. This method is for intellectually evolved spiritual aspirants who are seeking one's own truth, instead of the truth of a separate God. Both are seeking the same truth but in different ways.
The basic questions that are confronting the seekers of the Self are: Who am I? Wherefrom I come? Where do I go? What is this world?, What is my relationship with this world? etc.
If "I" am the body, then the whole story of "my" life begins from birth and ends in death through diseases and old age. Am "I" such a trifle of a being? If so there is no meaning at all in the short existence on earth. In such a case people will become very reluctant to worldly pursuits and pleasures. Their mind will be always pondering over and longing for answers to the question : Whether there is any permanence in the impermanent life, eternity in this transitory existence?.

Then there comes the counterpart of the seeker, that is a Master, who has already realised the Eternal Self. He assures that we are not the changing transitory phenomena, but That One Eternal Blissful Consciousness. One can realise this through one's own experience, through the method of total stillness. By this, one will be able to dive deep into one's center, the Eternal, Blissful Self, transcending the body mind.

The method :

  1. Follow the preliminary steps
  2. Go through the purification practices.

  1. Sit comfortably. Withdraw your ears from all sounds and keep them in their functionless state. If there are sounds around you do not get disturbed by them by not thinking about them. Similarly withdraw all your other organs of perception from their respective functions. Enjoy that functionless state of all your organs of sense perception for five minutes.

  2. Still keeping the sense organs in their functionless state withdraw all your organs of actions, mouth, hands, legs, organs of excretion and procreation from their respective actions and keep them in their functionless state. Then enjoy the functionless state of your organs of action for five minutes.

  3. Retaining the functionless state of organs of perceptions and actions still your mind. Free it from its functions of questioning, reasoning, remembering, discriminating, etc. Enjoy the functionless state of your mind for five minutes.

  4. Now keep all the sense organs, organs of action and mind together in the functionless state and enjoy that functionless state. In that state you will observe that there is only one feeling in your awareness, that is 'I'. Be in that "I" feeling alone.

If the mind comes out and goes out to multiple thoughts direct it to only one thought : "I am That I am", or " Who am I?".

When one continues the practice, after sometime the mind will automatically be free from that single feeling also, but without moving to any other.

Then the "I" feeling alone remains. Remain with that 'I" feeling alone for sometime. Don't fix any duration of time and don't even keep the idea of time in your mind.

Then the "I" feeling will also melt and merge, dissolve in the ultimate base, the One, All-pervasive, Eternal, Everpresent, Blissful Consciousness, one's own True Self - the same that one realised through the objective method as well-the very same inexpressible amazing "Experienceless Experience!".
